Every puppy that leaves MAPLE LANE CANINES receives Early Neurological Stimulation training within the first few days of his/her life. We strongly believe that this makes for a better, more well adjusted dog than those puppies who do not receive the same training.
Newborn puppies are very different from their human counterparts. Much research has been done on canines in the subject of inherited traits versus acquired traits. The studies have been on those puppies who received training techniques given shortly after birth, versus those who did not. How much do they inherit from their parents versus how much is learned? Well, much has been learned from these studies showing it is not all in what a puppy inherits from his parents, much has to do with what a puppy encounters shortly after their birth.
During one such study it was found that right after birth canines are sensitive to a class of stimuli which includes thermal and tactile stimulation, as well as motion and locomotion.
Early Neurological Stimulation Training
These studies showed that by subjecting a puppy to a series of tactile, stimuli and locomotion actions for just small amounts of time right after birth gave the greatest results in the behavior and health of adult dogs.
It was found that if you subject a puppy to a few seconds of body temperature drop - which in turn stresses the puppy for only a few seconds, that small amount of stress is sufficient enough to stimulate the hormonal adrenal and pituitary systems. When these puppies are tested again as adults these same dogs faired better than those dogs who did not receive the training.
The dogs that were subjected to small amounts of stress as infants were better able to withstand stress as adults. Those exposed to early stressors responded in a “gradual fashion”, whereas their litter mates reacted in an “all or nothing fashion”. Sexual maturity was also attained sooner in those given early stressors.
When tested for health and disease, stressed dogs were found to be more resistant to certain forms of cancer and infectious diseases, they could withstand terminal starvation and exposure to cold much longer and also performed much better in problem solving tests.
The US MILITARY adapted this program and is used in their canine program. Early on it was Referred to as the “BIO SENSOR” program, today it has become known as the “SUPER DOG” program. The benefits of this program are many;
1. Improved cardio vascular performance (heart rate)
2. Stronger heart beats
3. Stronger adrenal glands
4. More tolerance to stress
5. Greater resistance to stress
